Your Ears – Your Buds – PaMu Scroll 2.0

PaMu Scroll 2.0 41PaMu Scroll 2.0 earbuds offer some great advantages that make them a great choice for mobile listening. Here’s what I found as I tried the pre-release version against their claims. Spoiler alert: they’re worth your time.

The PaMu Scroll 2.0 earbuds make some claims that at first look might cause you to ‘yea, right’ before looking further. So here are their 7 claims and what I found about each.

Snug and secure fit – The PaMu buds claim a great fit that will never fall out. I have always shied away from ear buds because they never fit right and don’t stay in my ears. So I was pretty sketchy about their first claim, at least for me. For my first test I simply used the medium sized rubbers that came installed on the buds. I was (pleasantly) surprised that they stayed in my ears for several miles while I walked. But because I still had to push them in every so often I swapped out the rubbers for the smaller sized ones included in the kit. With them I’m able to complete my circuit and they don’t feel like they will fall out. S

So +1 for Snug and secure fit

Comfortable design – Once I got the sizing right these things are definitely comfortable. They rest in my ears and don’t bounce around. And they don’t feel like they are intruding on my ear passages.

Powerful sound – Definitely! With previous buds both wired and bluetooth I had to boost the volume on my phone to be able to hear in even minimal noise. I often need to lower the volume of the Scroll. One reason for the effectiveness of their sound is their noise blocking ability. These are not active noise canceling buds but the fit is tight enough that a significant amount of ambient noise is kept out.

My only issue with the sound is that there is no volume control on the buds themselves. I need to use the volume control on my phone. Since one of the features of the Scroll is touch control (tap to pause/resume/answer/hang up phone) it would have seemed possible to enable a volume up/down on one of the buds.

Yep +1 for Powerful sound but I’ll take a -1 for no volume control

Auto-paring – This is something only unconnected buds need and is normally done at the end of the manufacturing/packaging process. My set of PaMu Scroll were not factory-paired so my bluetooth connection to my phone only connected to one side at a time. A quick conversation with their support line got the left and right buds paired and from there I was able to easily pair the duo with my phone.

Uninterrupted bluetooth streaming – My sample set of Scroll is a pre-production set and I frankly did not get unterrupted streaming. When I put my phone in my pocket or even shifted my arms or body position I got gaps in my stream. Support identified this as a pre-production factor and I believe them to be right about this. Nonetheless I can’t testify to that.

Charge on the go – Rechargeable buds can be a problem for long listening periods. Face it, the batteries are tiny and just can’t last long. My Scroll lasts for about 3 hours but what’s cool is that I can drop them into their case that contains its own rechargeable battery and recharge them without having to connect to external power.

They also provide a wireless charger that fits into the micro USB on the case so you can just lay the Scroll’s case on your Qi standard wireless charging pad and avoid wires altogether.

Lightweight – Yes these are light. In fact according to the brochure they are 23% lighter (I didn’t test that because I don’t have a set of the PaMu 1.0)

Waterproof – Okay I didn’t dump these into water so like the reduced weight I’ll take their word on that. I can say though that my profuse sweat didn’t affect performance, so there’s that.

Bluetooth 5.0 – Yes if your device uses bluetooth 5.0 you’re good.

Unique design – I like the design because somehow I don’t need to check the orientation before I plug them into my ears. I do however need to check for the L/R designation. I’d like for that to be just a touch easier because I sometimes need to position them just right to see the embossed (not colored) L or R.

Call in both ears – Indeed phone calls can be heard in both ears and microphones pick up my voice from both. This especially good when I took one bud out for a minute and got an incoming call. I was able to have the conversation with only one bud in.

Colorful choices – Actually there are 4 choices. They are nice but I’m less impressed with the colors; Sakura, Graphene, Rock’n’Roll, and Glory. But yes they are different metallic shades.

Great Bass – I’d call it Good base. I still got a bit of rumble on very low notes with relatively high volume. But hey, these ‘speakers’ fit inside your ear so I have only limited expectations and they work fine for my listening profile.

Are the PaMu Scroll 2.0 worthwhile? They definitely get my Yes vote. They have become my go-to buds for outdoor activities and in fact for driving. Why driving? Because I drive my Miata with the top down whenever possible. And turning up the volume of my speakers seems to annoy people besides the wind noise makes listening inconvenient. So I use the Scroll for driving and expect to continue. You’ll probably like them too.
