The Exuberation Coctail Mixer
I love my bourbons straight with a single ice cube. The that doesn’t mean I don’t like mixed drinks. When I started experimenting with mixes I developed a few recipes that suited my personal taste. They were great experiments that I’ve used over the last few years. But I decided to put in some extra effort and act like a ‘test kitchen’ and try different mixes with differing ratios of a variety of flavors. The final blend that I’ve developed is a winner and can be served either by itself or as a mixer with another bourbon. Here’s the ‘secret’ recipe. Feel free to try it out and change it to your own taste.
Exuberation Mixer

I mix a liter batch at a time and keep it in a 1 liter oak barrel. It would age nicely- that is if it would ever last long enough to age. Here’s the ingredients and proportions:
- 8 oz Wild Turkey 101 – forms the base of the mix and is the reason it’s perfectly good as a drink on its own
- 1.5 oz creme Sherry – this is the sweet sherry and pretty much any brand will work
- 2.5 oz Brandy de Jerez Gran Solera – this is the killer ingredient. It isn’t available everywhere and is certainly the most expensive ingredient
- 2 oz TripleSec – adds just enough orange flavor
That’s it. Simple enough but guaranteed to give you a great drink.
