Yes – I Make Cigar Box Guitars!
This build was fun. I found wooden trays with very thin bottoms and mounted them back to back. The thin wood works well with the single piezo pickup mounted directly to the ‘top’ just under the bridge. Moon phase laser etched fret markings contribute to the ’round’ motif.
Flame roasted FSG box with a single piezo under the bridge and volume/tone controls. Nice close action and terrific sound whether played as an acoustic or plugged in. This one howls in just the right way.
This is a super resonator in that both front and back are thin stainless steel pans that have most of their surface area unconnected to anything that would dampen its resonance. It sounds terrific both as an acoustic strummer or plugged into an amp. The single piezo pickup is sensitive to any and all movements so you can strum and tap (or pound) for a percussion backing to your music. The single sound hole provides plenty of room for sound to exit the cavity.

I love the clean look of this CGB! I concentrated on using white and gold parts to match the box top decoration. The result is a beautiful looking and astounding playing guitar.

For the last few months I’ve been experimenting with building cigar box guitars. I’ve now built too many so I’ve stopped for a while until I’ve sold a few to make room for new ones, or when I get an order for a custom build. My point here is that I’ve learned a lot and have produced some pretty interesting guitars, even if I do say so myself. Take a look at some of these designs and let me know if they are interesting to you. I also have an added bonus that you’ll find lurking between some of the pictures.
