Flying Fox Vineyard

flying foxThe area around Charlottesville, VA is relatively packed with wineries. In my experience the wines produced by them is on par with many California wineries (if you have a different opinion, use the comment area below). That’s not to say that every wine from every winery is exemplary. But on average I wasn’t disappointed with either our first visit 2 years ago or our return visit this year. When we did return we made a point of visiting one of our most favorite in the area – Flying Fox Vineyard.

This is a small winery – actually a very small tasting room. It’s in a small cottage that adjoins a rental cottage property. Both times we visited we were the only people in the room. At least that was true for a little while. The place seemed to fill up after we arrived. We were able to have our tasting and left with more bottles than we had originally planned to buy.

In particular the Viognier and Cabernet Franc are our favorites from Flying Fox. The Cab Franc was nearly sold out since it won a best in category medal for this year’s product. If you’re in the area, this is a sure bet.
