Clarity About Wine Pricing and Quality

cheapwineSince I’m not a som or even qualify myself as a sophisticated wine buyer, I’ve always questioned wine pricing. Is it right to assume that a $40 bottle is better than a $20 bottle? How about a $10 bottle? Or even one for less than $5? I do know that I’ve had good wine experiences at all these levels of price. What I don’t know is how to tell when I really should be spending $40. Here’s some advice from Wine Folly that might help us who have not tasted every wine from every maker. Maybe it will clarify something for you too.

My best pal buys her wine like this: she goes to the aisle with the wine variety she wants (be it Malbec or Cabernet) and then finds the bottle with the biggest markdown. Her reasoning: Why would I drink a $12.99 wine when you could have a $24.99 wine for the same price?
